Five checks that separate a working desk from a brochure.
Private charters in Raja Ampat are arranged by charter desks and brokers holding contracts with vessel owners — no single company owns every boat in the archipelago. This site is operated by Komodo Luxury, part of Juara Holding Group since 2015, which books partner yachts across its network. Our methodology page explains how vessels are shortlisted.
Ask for three things in writing before any transfer: the vessel name and registered owner, the charter agreement with payment schedule and cancellation terms, and recent photographs or a video walkthrough of the actual boat rather than stock imagery. A legitimate desk sends all three without pressure. Our booking process page sets out each document in sequence.
A boat owner sells one vessel and will always recommend it. A charter desk holds a fleet across many owners, so it can say no to a yacht that does not fit your dates, group size or diving level. The trade-off is that a desk must be transparent about whether it owns a vessel or books it on the owner’s behalf. Compare the options on our fleet page.
Judge by dive infrastructure, not brochure language: onboard compressor and Nitrox, tender count, a dedicated camera table, and guides who work Dampier Strait and Misool every season. Dive-built vessels such as Scubaspa Zen are configured differently from sailing-first yachts. Read choosing the best liveaboard before you shortlist.
Ask the desk for the vessel’s recent charter history and for contact with the yacht manager, then cross-check the boat against independent brokerage listings where build year, refit and guest capacity are published. We publish sourced specifications rather than testimonials — see how we assess vessels.
Rates, extras, deposits and the peak-season premium.
Whole-vessel charters start near $1,500 per night for a small entry phinisi and around $4,500 per night for mid-luxury boats. Premium phinisi run $6,000–10,000 per night, flagships in the Lamima and Prana class $12,000–16,000, and ultra vessels above $15,000. Per-cabin travel starts from about $350 per person per night. Full bands sit on our charter cost page.
Budget for the marine park entry permit, fuel, cruising or anchorage and village fees on some itineraries, dive packages where diving is not bundled, drinks outside the standard list, and a customary crew gratuity. Brokerage listings quote “from $X per week plus expenses” because those items are billed separately. See what all-inclusive actually covers.
A deposit holds the vessel and the dates; the balance falls due before embarkation. The percentage, due dates, payment methods and refund conditions vary by owner and are written into the charter agreement; there is no industry-wide standard. Request the terms in writing before transferring anything. Our booking process walks through the order.
A private charter wins when your group fills the boat, wants its own dive schedule, and values reaching Wayag or Misool without a fixed timetable. A resort or shared cabin is better value for one or two travellers with flexible expectations. Run the comparison on private versus shared and our honest assessment.
Peak season runs December to March, with Christmas and New Year weeks carrying the strongest demand across the fleet. Expect roughly a 10–20% premium on those dates plus the narrowest availability. Shoulder months hold the same reefs at softer rates — see 2027 rates and deals.
Fleet size, entry-level boats, hull type, family layouts and flagship rates.
The partner network runs nine owned vessels plus vetted partner vessels, and the brokerage listing we track for Raja Ampat carries 43 yachts — from a 22-metre motor boat to the 70-metre Alfa, with capacities spanning 2 to 30 guests. Filter by guest count, dive setup and budget on the fleet page.
The lowest published weekly rates in the Raja Ampat listing are Manta Mae, a 31-metre phinisi for 12 guests from $21,000 per week, and Augustine Phinisi, 32 metres for 15 guests from $28,000 per week — both plus expenses. Smaller entry phinisi book from about $1,500 per night whole-boat. Compare on charter cost.
A phinisi gives wide teak decks, shaded lounging and the traditional Indonesian silhouette most guests picture. A motor yacht gives speed between distant island groups and, on expedition hulls, longer range for Cenderawasih or Triton Bay extensions. Both work on the core loops. Read phinisi versus motor yacht before deciding.
Look for seven or more cabins and adjoining layouts: Dunia Baru (51 m, 14 guests, 7 cabins), Lamima (65.2 m, 14 guests, 7 cabins) and Prana by Atzaro (55 m, 18 guests, 9 cabins) all carry large groups. Amandira, Silolona and Alila Purnama also run family charters.
From-rates in the Raja Ampat brokerage listing, plus expenses, verified August 2026: Silolona $130,900, Dunia Baru $130,000, Prana $140,000, Lamima $175,000, Kudanil Explorer $175,000, Aqua Blu $388,000 and Alfa $700,000. Rates move with season and itinerary length.
Season windows, trip length, the two core loops and extensions.
October to April is the prime window for Raja Ampat: calmest seas, best visibility and the fullest fleet presence. The archipelago is divable year-round, and low season brings quieter sites with softer rates. Month-by-month detail sits on the weather page and best time to charter.
Seven nights covers one loop properly — either the northern Dampier–Fam–Piaynemo–Wayag circuit or the southern Misool run. Ten to twelve nights lets you sail both without rushing the crossings. Under four nights, repositioning eats most of the trip. Compare formats on 7 versus 12 nights and all itineraries.
The seven-night northern loop runs Sorong to Dampier Strait (Arborek, Manta Sandy, Cape Kri, Sardine Reef, Blue Magic), then Penemu and Fam for Melissa’s Garden, Piaynemo and Wayag, returning via The Passage. The southern Misool loop covers Balbulol, Daram, Love Lagoon, Magic Mountain, Boo Windows and Farondi — softer corals, fewer boats.
Yes. Triton Bay and Kaimana sit roughly two sailing days from Misool and run October to April. Cenderawasih Bay whale sharks peak July to October, accessed via Manokwari or Nabire. A Raja Ampat to Komodo repositioning takes 10–14 nights through the Banda Sea in April or May.
Most big vessels rotate seasonally: Raja Ampat from November to April, Komodo from May to October. That makes April and May the Raja Ampat to Komodo crossing months, and October to November the return leg. To secure a specific flagship in Raja Ampat, book inside its window. See Raja Ampat versus Komodo.
Getting there, permits, weather changes, medical distance and insurance.
Fly into Sorong (DEO/SOQ) — roughly four hours direct from Jakarta, or via Makassar, Manado or Bali. Most charters embark at Sorong harbour, with Waisai and southern Misool used on some itineraries. Airport pickup and the jetty transfer are arranged by the desk. Details on Sorong embarkation and flights to Sorong.
Every visitor needs the Raja Ampat Marine Park entry permit, issued as a PIN card valid for the calendar year. The fee sits in the region of IDR 700,000–1,000,000 per person and should be confirmed at booking, since tariffs change. Larger charters may also pay cruising, anchorage and village fees per itinerary. See the permit guide.
Raja Ampat itineraries are routes, not timetables. The captain reroutes to sheltered anchorages and swaps dive sites according to current and wind, so the sequence changes rather than the trip. Ask whether your quote guarantees named sites or a general cruising area. More on weather contingencies.
Raja Ampat is genuinely remote. Sorong is the nearest town with hospital facilities, and the inner archipelago is hours away by sea — Sorong to Arborek alone is about 53 nautical miles, roughly eight hours’ sailing. Confirm the vessel’s oxygen and first-aid provision, evacuation plan and satellite or radio communications before departure.
Travel insurance covering cancellation and medical evacuation is essential, and divers should hold cover valid for liveaboard diving to their certification depth. Charter agreements do not include personal insurance. Read the charter insurance guide, then lock your dates through secure your charter.
Working from group size, month and budget? The yacht matcher answers that combination directly against the published fleet.
Unless stated otherwise, charter rates here are whole-vessel: the figure covers the yacht, its crew and the standard inclusions, not one seat. Weekly brokerage figures appear as “from $X per week plus expenses”. Per-person pricing applies only to cabin charters, which start from about $350 per person per night. See cabin charters.
Nine to twelve months ahead for December to March departures, and earlier still for Christmas and New Year on named flagships. Bookings for 2027 are already filling. Shoulder dates in October, November and April can often be arranged within six months. See booking lead times.
Yes, provided the vessel carries enough tenders and crew to run two programmes at once. Raja Ampat’s snorkelling is exceptional — the Bird’s Head Seascape holds more than 1,700 fish species and 550 coral species — so non-divers get reef time, Arborek village, the Piaynemo viewpoint and kayaking while divers are down. Flag the split at enquiry so the shortlist matches.
Four: what the rate excludes, how many guests share the boat and crew, whether dives and park fees are bundled, and what happens to your money if you cancel. Two quotes that look tens of thousands apart often converge once expenses are added. Our cost breakdown and full FAQ list the line items.
