Your First Day
The overnight direct from Jakarta is the flight this whole plan hangs on. Domine Eduard Osok is small — you are outside with your bags quickly.
Taxi or Grab to Pelabuhan Rakyat Sorong, ten to twenty minutes, IDR 80,000–120,000. No intermediate stop, no ferry terminal.
Boat briefing, cabins, lunch under way. The vessel steams north through the afternoon while you unpack.
An overnight passage puts you in the Dampier Strait for the first dive of the trip, rather than spending day one in transit.
On The Ground
Airport
Domine Eduard Osok (SOQ), Sorong. Domestic services only.
Airlines
Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Batik Air, TransNusa and Sriwijaya Air, with several arrivals a day.
Connecting from
Jakarta, Bali, Makassar and Manado. International travellers connect through one of those.
To the marina
Pelabuhan Rakyat Sorong, roughly 10 km by road. Taxi or Grab, IDR 80,000–120,000.
To the ferry
A separate harbour. Fixed-price taxi IDR 100,000, or around IDR 42,000 by Grab.
Ferry operators
Express Bahari and Fajar Indah. Daily at 14:00, plus 09:00 on Sundays. IDR 125,000 one way.
And Then
Cape Kri, Manta Sandy, Blue Magic. Where most charters spend most of their diving.
The star-lagoon viewpoint, on a boardwalk. Usually an early-morning stop.
The karst country. Most vessels run this leg overnight under way.
Arches, deep walls and soft coral. Costs a day of the itinerary each way.
Questions
Sorong, if you have the choice. It removes the ferry, the harbour transfer and usually a night ashore — on a seven-night charter that is most of a day back. Waisai only makes sense when the vessel you want is based there.
About ten kilometres by road, ten to twenty minutes, IDR 80,000–120,000 by taxi or Grab. That ten kilometres is a road distance and nothing to do with the sea crossing to Waisai, which is roughly two hours.
You have missed the day's ferry to Waisai, so a Waisai-based vessel means a night in Sorong. A Sorong-based vessel can often still take you the same evening. This is the single strongest argument for a Sorong departure.
The vessel, crew, chef, meals and usually the watersports and dive equipment. The marine park permit and personal expenses sit outside it — the permit is IDR 1,700,000 per international visitor, valid twelve months.
Sometimes, but the fleet is small and October to April is the season everyone wants. Ask us what is actually free on your dates rather than assuming.

Board From Sorong
Not every vessel is based in Sorong, and the ones that are do not all board at the same hour. It is a short list on any given date, and we would rather give you the real one than a general answer.
