For couples, we usually chart a 7-night northern route: board in Sorong, cross the Dampier Strait to Arborek and the manta cleaning stations — the Sorong-to-Arborek leg is roughly 53 nautical miles, around eight hours of easy steaming — then work through Cape Kri and Sardine Reef before the hard-coral gardens of the Fam group, the Piaynemo lookout climb, and two unhurried days in Wayag’s lagoon maze at the top of the archipelago. The return runs through The Passage, the river-like channel between Waigeo and Gam, timed for golden light.
