Charter Flores and Sumbawa in the May-October season: Komodo National Park, Moyo and Satonda, crossings to Raja Ampat, and rates verified August 2026.
Flores and Sumbawa form the western half of Indonesia’s great charter circuit — the coastline the Raja Ampat fleet calls home from May to October, with Komodo National Park at its centre. A Flores-Sumbawa yacht charter typically runs seven nights from Labuan Bajo, sailing dragons, pink-sand beaches, crater lakes and waterfall islands aboard the same vessels that spend November to April in Raja Ampat. For charterers, that rotation is the key insight: one fleet, two seasons, and a spectacular crossing linking them twice a year.
The Indonesian charter calendar is built on a seasonal rotation. From November to April the large phinisi and expedition yachts cruise Raja Ampat; from May to October they base out of Labuan Bajo for Komodo, Flores and Sumbawa, where conditions are at their driest and calmest. In April-May and again in October-November the fleet repositions between the two grounds — often as a bookable ten-to-fourteen-night voyage via the Banda Sea and Alor. In practice this means the boat you loved in Raja Ampat is available here in the opposite months, with the same crew, the same chef and the same standards. Our Raja Ampat to Komodo crossing guide covers the repositioning legs in detail.
The corridor between the two islands compresses an extraordinary amount of Indonesia into a week of sailing:
What binds them is contrast: within a single week you move from dragon savanna to crater lake to jungle waterfall, rarely cruising more than a few hours between anchorages, with the same chef and cabin waiting at the end of every excursion.
The classic route sails west from Labuan Bajo, saving the wildest anchorages for mid-voyage:
| Day | Area | Rhythm of the day |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Labuan Bajo | Embark, cruise into Komodo National Park for a first sunset at anchor. |
| Days 2–3 | Komodo National Park | Dragon walks, Padar at first light, manta sites and pink-sand swims. |
| Day 4 | Banta & Sangeang | Volcano views, black-sand diving, evening passage along Sumbawa’s coast. |
| Day 5 | Satonda | Crater-lake walk at dawn, reef snorkelling, quiet night at anchor. |
| Day 6 | Moyo Island | Waterfall excursion, long lazy reef afternoon, farewell dinner on deck. |
| Day 7 | Return east | Sea day back toward Labuan Bajo; disembark next morning, or extend one-way toward Bali by arrangement. |
With ten nights or more the route stretches deeper along Flores or adds more park time; families often slow the pace to two anchorages fewer and two swims more.
This is the most versatile week in the Indonesian charter calendar, and it absorbs mixed parties better than any other route:
This is the dry season across Nusa Tenggara, and it is the reason the fleet migrates here: settled seas, reliably sunny days, and the golden, savanna-brown light that makes Komodo’s hills look like a lion’s coat. Passages between anchorages are short — most days involve only a few hours of cruising — so the route suits guests who prefer swimming time over sea time. Currents inside Komodo National Park demand respect at specific dive sites, which is precisely why chartering with a crew that runs these waters all season matters; your guides pick the hour, not just the site. Evenings are still and clear, made for open-deck dining under the kind of star field only a coastline without cities can offer.
Twice a year the two cruising grounds join hands. In April-May yachts leave Raja Ampat and sail west via the Banda Sea and Spice Islands toward Komodo; in October-November they run the same legs in reverse. These ten-to-fourteen-night crossings are the connoisseur’s booking — remote volcanic islands, heritage stops at Banda Neira and, in the September-November window, schooling hammerheads on the Banda walls. If your calendar can absorb two weeks, ask the concierge about crossing availability before settling on a single-region charter: the supply is tiny and sells out first.
Rates mirror the Raja Ampat season bands, since the same fleet serves both grounds. Rates verified August 2026; the yacht charter cost guide explains expenses, park fees and crew gratuities in full.

Mid-year school holidays are the season’s busiest stretch and the best vessels are claimed early; for first-choice boats and cabins, brief us nine to twelve months out.
One conversation covers both seasons. Tell our Bali-based concierge — the same desk behind Raja Ampat Yacht Charter, operated by Komodo Luxury since 2015 — your months, party and priorities, and we will lay out the honest options: a May-October Flores-Sumbawa charter, a November-April Raja Ampat voyage, or the crossing that stitches them together. We then handle flights into Labuan Bajo, park permissions, provisioning and guides end-to-end, so the itinerary you approve is the itinerary you sail.
