Raja Ampat Charter Provisioning & Galley Guide

Expect to eat well — and to eat deliberately. On a Raja Ampat yacht charter, every meal is prepared on board by the vessel’s chef from provisions loaded in Sorong and fresh catch acquired along the route, because there are no restaurants, markets or supply stops once you sail. Menus blend Indonesian cooking with international dishes, dietary requirements are handled through a preference sheet before departure, and whether food is bundled into your rate depends on the charter model. Details below, verified August 2026.

Is Food Included in Your Charter Rate?

It depends which pricing model your vessel uses, and this is worth understanding before you compare quotes:

  • All-inclusive charters — common on Indonesian phinisi and liveaboards — bundle all meals, snacks and standard drinks into the headline rate. What you see is close to what you pay; our all-inclusive charter page explains the format.
  • Plus-expenses charters — standard on internationally listed superyachts, quoted as “from $X per week + expenses” — fund food and drink from a separate advance provisioning account. Your party sets the culinary brief and budget, the crew purchases against it, and unspent funds are reconciled after the charter.

Neither model is better; they suit different vessels and different guests. The full breakdown of what sits inside and outside each rate type is in our Raja Ampat yacht charter cost guide.

How Does Provisioning Work This Far East?

Raja Ampat is one of the most remote charter grounds on earth, and the galley plan reflects it. Sorong — reached by flights from Jakarta in about four hours, or via Makassar and Manado — is the last full provisioning point before departure. Once you clear the harbour, distances take over: Sorong to Arborek alone is roughly 53 nautical miles, and there is no shop at the far end.

In practice this means three things. First, everything for the charter is planned and loaded before you board: proteins, produce, cellar, the lot. Second, menus are built with a deliberate arc — the most delicate fresh produce appears early in the week, hardier ingredients and the freezer stores carry the later days, and a good chef makes the sequence feel intentional rather than rationed. Third, the sea itself contributes: fresh reef and pelagic fish bought or caught along the route routinely become the best meals of the trip. Guests embarking via Sorong can also have specific requests — a particular wine, a birthday cake ingredient — flown ahead with enough notice.

What Do Typical Menus Look Like?

Every vessel cooks differently, but the pattern across the fleet is consistent enough to describe honestly:

  • Breakfast: tropical fruit, eggs to order, breads and Indonesian options alongside familiar Western staples, served early on dive days.
  • Lunch: the most Indonesian meal of the day on most boats — grilled fish, sambals, vegetable dishes and rice or noodles, eaten casually on deck.
  • Dinner: the chef’s set piece, usually plated courses that alternate Indonesian and international cooking across the week.
  • Between meals: post-dive snacks, fresh juices and the coffee supply on which liveaboard mornings run.

On flagship vessels such as Lamima, with a 20-strong crew serving 14 guests, the galley operates at private-villa standard — but even on entry phinisi, cooking is the crew’s daily pride, and it shows.

Can Dietary Requirements Be Accommodated?

Yes, with notice — and notice is the operative word. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, child-friendly and allergy-driven menus are all routine across the fleet, but the chef must know before provisioning day, not after departure, because nothing can be bought mid-cruise. Our concierge desk collects a preference sheet from every guest at booking: allergies and hard exclusions, dislikes, drink preferences and the occasions worth marking during the trip. Serious allergies deserve a direct conversation with the operator about galley practice, which we arrange as standard.

How Do Dive Days Change the Meal Schedule?

On dive-focused charters, the galley serves the dive deck. Mornings start with a light first breakfast before the early dive, a proper second breakfast after it, and the day’s biggest meals land after the diving is done — heavy lunches and deep-water hours do not mix. Snacks appear at every surface interval, hydration is constant, and dinner comes earlier than resort habits expect, because 6am wake-ups are the norm when the best sites run on slack tide. Non-divers aboard the same vessel are not forgotten: the crew typically keeps a flexible service window so a late riser’s breakfast and a diver’s second breakfast coexist without friction. On wellness-leaning charters the same kitchen shifts register entirely — lighter plates, longer dinners, later mornings. Tell us which trip you are actually taking and the galley plan follows.

What Drinks Are On Board?

Standard drinks — water, juices, coffee, tea and soft drinks — flow all day on effectively every vessel, and all-inclusive charters typically fold local beer into the rate. Wine and spirits are where the models diverge: on plus-expenses charters the cellar is provisioned to your brief and billed through the expenses account, while all-inclusive vessels usually price alcohol packages or specific bottles separately. The practical rule is the same either way — decide what you want to drink before provisioning day, because Sorong is the last point where anything can be sourced, and fine-wine requests need lead time to be flown ahead.

What About the Special Moments?

The setting does half the work, and crews here are practised at the other half. Dinners set up on a private sandbar, breakfast served after a sunrise ridge walk, canapés on the top deck as the anchorage goes gold — these are arrangeable on request on most private charters, and cost little or nothing beyond the provisioning already aboard. If a specific occasion falls during your charter — an anniversary, a birthday, a proposal — tell the concierge desk at booking and we will brief the crew properly rather than leaving it to chance.

What Should You Tell Your Concierge Before Departure?

  • Allergies and non-negotiable exclusions for every guest, including children.
  • The style you want: predominantly Indonesian, predominantly international, or the fleet’s natural blend.
  • Drinks: wine and spirits preferences, and whether you want specific labels sourced ahead through Sorong.
  • Occasions falling during the charter, and any surprise element to protect.
  • Appetite realism: dive-heavy itineraries eat earlier and heartier; wellness itineraries eat lighter — the galley plans for the trip you are actually taking.
