Raja Ampat Map & How to Get There

The archipelago in one paragraph

There is no useful map of Raja Ampat — there are distances

Raja Ampat is more than 1,500 islands around four main ones — Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Misool — off the northwest tip of the Bird's Head in Southwest Papua. A drawn map makes it look compact. It is not: the useful question is not where a place sits but how many hours it is from Waisai, and that is what this page answers. Three zones are reachable on one charter — Dampier Strait in the centre, the karst country north, Misool south.

Cendrawasih Bay is often shown on the same map. It is roughly 600 km east and a different national park — it belongs on a 14-night route, not on a week.

Waisai → Dampier Strait

30–60 minutes by speedboat.

Waisai → Piaynemo

The Year

When the crossings are comfortable

Sea state matters more here than weather does — the long legs north and south are open water, and July and August can close them.

Charter season

Calm seas for the crossings

Manta activity, Dampier Strait

Whale sharks, Cendrawasih Bay

Peak Good Quiet

Plan The Route

Tell us which zones you want and we will tell you how many nights it takes

Wayag and Misool in one week is possible and costs two days under way. We will say that rather than sell you a route that spends its time steaming past everything.
